Economic Impact
Stock Market
As a result of 9/11 the economy suffered in multiple ways. Perhaps one of the biggest economic effects of 9/11 was seen in the stock market. On September 11th 2001 the New York Stock Exchange or NYSE as well as NASDAQ did not open for trading after two planes crashed into the World Trade Center. After the attacks both the NYSE and NASDAQ remained closed until September 17th 2001. When the NYSE opened again after 9/11 the market immediately fell, and by the end of that week the NYSE saw it's biggest losses in history losing an estimated $1.4 trillion in value over the five day trading period.
