Rebuilding After The Attacks
World Trade Center
After the attacks took place plans begin to rebuild the World Trade Center as a sign of America's triumph over terrorism. Cleanup of the World Trade Center site was finished in May 2002. Daniel Libeskind won the competition for the design of the new World Trade Center. Today the complex is still not fully completed. The final site will have six skyscrapers, a memorial, and a transportation hub. One World Trade Center which was previously known as Freedom Tower is the main building. It is the fourth tallest skyscraper in the world. Construction on One World Trade Center was completed in July 2013, with an official opening in November 2014. 4 World Trade Center the memorial and museum, and the Transportation Hub are completed as well. The rest of the buildings are still under construction and are expected to be completed at various times.
PentagonThe Pentagon was rebuilt after the attack and the name the "Phoenix Project" was given to this task. Before reconstruction could being there was a full demolition of the section of the building that was getting repaired which took months. The original goal of the project was to be able to have tenants move back into the building by September 11th 2002, however the building was completed almost a month earlier.
